Forget guns and knives: officials in Sweden’s second-largest city, Gothenburg, are advising young girls to hide a spoon in their underwear… to defend themselves against Muslim kidnappers who want to force them into marriage or into female genital mutilation.
According to Gothenburg authorities, girls who have been kidnapped should hide a spoon in their underwear before going through airport security, so they’ll trigger the metal detector.
“The spoon will trigger metal detectors when you go through security checks,” said Katarina Idegard, who is in charge of tackling Muslim “honor-based violence” in Gothenburg. “You will be taken aside and you can then talk to staff in private.”
“It is a last chance to sound the alarm” before being taken overseas, Idegard added
Sweden has taken a large number of Muslim immigrants over the past few years—and, as a result, violent crime in the normally-peaceful Scandinavian country is soaring.
In the past nine years, murders involving guns has nearly doubled.
And hand grenade violence—which was virtually nonexistent just a few years ago—is the highest in the world, for countries not engaged in civil war.
The sudden rise in violence caused the nation to close its doors to refugees, after accepting a record 163,000 asylum seekers in 2015.
