Advertisers are leaving TBS’s “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” in droves, after host Samantha Bee made derogatory comments about Ivanka Trump.
Bee called the First Daughter a “feckless c**t” during a broadcast on Wednesday night.
Autotrader, a car trading website, dropped the show and issued a statement saying, “The comments expressed by Samantha Bee were offensive and unacceptable and do not reflect the views of our company. As a result, we have suspended our sponsorship of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
Insurance company State Farm also dropped the show. “We have asked TBS to suspend our advertising in the program and are reviewing any future placements. We constantly review programs to ensure alignment to our programming guidelines and brand values,” they said in a statement.
Other companies, most notably credit card company Discover, have also issued statements defending their continued partnership with Bee’s show, even as they’ve been criticized by viewers.
Bee later apologized for her comments, causing them “inappropriate and inexcusable.”
That seemed to be enough for TBS, who said that Bee “has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and appropriate language she used” and that they would not further action.
“Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it,” TBS added. They have since removed the entire episode from their website.
The lack of professional consequences against Bee comes on the heels of the sudden cancellation of the reboot of “Roseanne”—2018’s top-rated TV show—after star Roseanne Barr wrote a tweet critical of a former Obama aide.
