Actor and conservative social media firebrand James Woods was canned by his talent agent… over “patriotism.”
Via Twitter, the actor shared a short email he received from his now-former agent, Ken Kaplan.
“It’s the 4th of July and I’m feeling patriotic,” Kaplan wrote Woods. “I don’t want to represent you anymore. I mean I can go on a rant but you know what I’d say.”
Woods, explaining for clarification that Kaplan was a “political liberal,” then took to Twitter to publicly respond to Kaplan.
“My response: ‘Dear Ken, I don’t actually. I was thinking if you’re feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one’s right to think as an individual,” he said.
“Be that as it may, I want to thank you for all your hard work and devotion on my behalf. Be well,” he added.
Woods had been a Democrat until the 1990s, when Bill Clinton was impeached. Shocked by his party’s behavior in standing behind Clinton, Woods then became a registered Republican.
Since then, Woods has emerged as one of the strongest conservative voices coming out of Hollywood—even if, as evidence by his talent agent walking, his career has been negatively affected for speaking his mind.
