Another day, another incident of the mainstream media wrongly declaring President Trump dead on arrival.
Last week, pundits began openly suggesting that Trump’s presidency was in peril, after Trump’s longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, claimed in court that the President had directed him to pay off two women that allegedly had an affair with Trump.
Just hours before, Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort had been found guilty of eight charges, from work he had done before he worked for the Trump campaign.
But despite the media’s anger, the American people don’t seem to care. Trump’s approval rating is virtually unchanged.
Between August 18 and August 22, largely before Cohen’s guilty plea, the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll pegged Trump at 46 percent approval and 51 percent disapproval.
The poll taken between August 22 and August 25–after the news had been in the media for at least a day–Trump’s approval had dipped only slightly to 44 percent, with 52 percent disapproval. That’s within the margin of error for the poll, meaning that statistically Trump’s approval rating is unchanged.
However, despite Trump’s steady approval rating, there are possible storm clouds on the horizon: a majority of voters–56 percent–think that Trump has not been honest about the Mueller probe.
