Residents Flee New York City Amid Soaring Crime

Crime is soaring in New York City… and New Yorkers are moving out in record numbers.

The mass exodus in 2020 began when New York City became the global epicenter of COVID-19… but moves have continued to tick up even as the city recovers from the pandemic.

Fox Business interviewed a number of New York-based moving companies, who said they were doing record business.

New York’s Oz Moving was booked to capacity for the entire month of July by July 15… the first time in the company’s 27 years that they had to turn away new business so early in the month.

Roadway Moving, meanwhile, also said that 2020 has been the busiest summer ever and that the company “couldn’t keep up with demand.”

Part of the exodus comes amid soaring crime in New York City… fueled by far-left Mayor Bill de Blasio’s crusade against the police department.

In 2020, there have been 159 murders in Manhattan–25% higher than 2019. In June 2020, there were more than double the number of murders as there were in June 2019.

Crime has touched every corner city: even in the city’s uber-wealthy Upper East Side, there’s been a 250% increase in gunpoint robberies–including 3 in one afternoon.

Despite the roaring crime and fleeing populace, de Blasio has moved to “defund the police,” saying he would move funding from NYPD to youth and social services. The City council proposed a $1 billion cut from the NYPD’s budget.
