The Top Five Democratic Candidates Leading Announcement Season

Election Season
Who will take on Trump, and will they win?

Now that the holidays are done and the New Year has begun, we are approaching that time of year that comes around ever four years where candidates start announcing their plans to run for president.

2020 is approaching quickly and as the Democrats make plans to beat Donald Trump in the next presidential election, there are five candidates that stand out above the rest.

Over the next six months or so, these candidates will start announcing their candidacy and enter what could be one of the largest Democratic fields in modern history.

Here is our top five picks for who will announce their candidacy in the coming months and have the best shot at winning the Democratic nomination.

Number 1: Beto O’Rourke

O’Rourke lost his race to become a Texas Senator and take Ted Cruz’s spot, but he was able to gain some national spotlight and is one candidate that a lot of people on the left seem to like. He is similar to Obama in that he has a great personality and comes across as having a strong moral compass. Although he didn’t win his election, he made it a close battle in a very red state.

Number 2: Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA)

Many on the left are begging for someone new and a fresh face. They want someone different and Kamala Harris fits the bill. Serving in the US Senate, she gained some national attention in her stance against Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court nomination. She is progressive and from the third largest state. There is a lot of support for Harris and the Democrats desires to have a new face in the White House could raise her standings. It is possible that Kamala Harris could be the first female president.

Number 3: Former Vice President Joe Biden

Biden may have missed his chance back in 2016 when he didn’t run for personal reasons, but all indications show that he is considering a run in 2020. Although not a new face, he does have the most political clout on the list. Biden is not a spring chicken, and at 76-years-old, his age may become a factor. On paper, Biden might have the best chance in 2020, but with the Democrats wanting a new face, his might not be the one the pick to run against Donald Trump.

Number 4. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

The 77-year-old Bernie Sanders is not a new and fresh face, but he was in 2016 and he ran a very close primary race against Hillary Clinton. Sanders was able to rally the youth vote and got people excited in the younger spectrums of the party. A few years later, he is hoping he can re-create the magic his campaign had in 2016, but is 79-years-old too old to start a presidency? We’ll have to wait and see what the voters think.

Number 5. Congressman Joe Kennedy (D-MA)

This is our sleeper pick. The one that could come out of nowhere and really grab some headlines and votes in the primary. It isn’t clear that Kennedy has decided to run, but he has the name and is a progressive force on the left. His grandfather was Robert F. Kennedy, and he is known as someone that likes to get things done. He was voted “Newsmaker of the Year” by his local Herald News and could be the charismatic new face the Democrats are looking for.

Others that did not make our list are people like Elizabeth Warren, Michael Bloomberg and Corey Booker. Although there are a lot of potential candidates, there is no real clear lead and it is likely that the Democratic primary is going to be a convoluted and fierce process.
