Joe Biden called Donald Trump the “first” racist President of the United States… and now, top black activists are fuming.
Biden’s bizarre claim is wrong on face: 12 presidents alone were slaveholders.
And that doesn’t even include post-Civil War presidents who believed the white race was superior–a prevalent view for much of the 19th century–or even more modern presidents, like Woodrow Wilson, who were considered racist even by the standards of their own times.
“No sitting president has ever [spread racism],” Biden said, during a panel with the Service Employees International Union. “Never, never, never. No Republican president has done this. No Democratic president. We’ve had racists and they’ve existed and they’ve tried to get elected president. He’s the first one that has.”
Biden’s comments received collective eyerolls from much of the black community.
Radio host Charlamagne tha God, who has clashed with Biden before, took aim at him again.
“I really wish Joe Biden would shut the eff up forever and continue to act like he’s starring in the movie ‘A Quiet Place’ because as soon as he opens his mouth and makes noise, he gets us all killed, OK?” he said, on his radio program, The Breakfast Club.
“There’s already so many people who are reluctantly only voting for Joe Biden because he’s the only option and because Donald J. Trump is that trash,” he added.
He added: “How the hell can Donald Trump be the first racist president in a country where 12 presidents before him owned slaves?”
