Democratic opposition to Trump’s plan to end the Obama-era Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) amnesty program has rapidly solidified in only a few short days.
The roster of Democratic politicians, at all levels of government, who have issued official statements denouncing Trump and vowing to make illegal immigration as easy as possible have exploded even in the last 36 hours. Even former President Bill Clinton posted on his social media account, that “these young people’s dreams are part of the American Dream. And they make it more real for all of us.”
Bill Clinton continued, arguing that, “DACA [amnesty] has brought hundreds of thousands of young people out of the shadows,” he continued, “allowing them to live without fear, go to school, work, and contribute to America.” It should be noted that these same illegal aliens are competing for American’s jobs, and American citizen’s college admission and scholarship opportunities as well – almost as if they are not “contributing to America” but taking, and taking, and taking from America.
Former Vice President, Joe Biden, was not far behind Clinton in denouncing Trump’s plan to enforce federal immigration law. He tweeted out to his followers, “Brought by parents, these children had no choice in coming here. Now they’ll be sent to countries they’ve never known. Cruel. Not America.”
Even Obama took to Facebook to complain that Trump was daring to pursue different policies than he did. Barrack Obama claimed that, “What makes us American is not a question of what we look like, or where our names come from, or the way we pray.” The former President concluded, explaining that “what makes us American is our fidelity to a set of ideals — that all of us are created equal; that all of us deserve the chance to make of our lives what we will; that all of us share an obligation to stand up, speak out, and secure our most cherished values for the next generation. That’s how America has traveled this far. That’s how, if we keep at it, we will ultimately reach that more perfect union.”
One might consider asking Obama if the impartial application of the Rule of Law is an American value that we must cherish and protect for the sake of the next generation as well.
