Pennsylvania Attorney General, Josh Shapiro identified 300 “predator priests” who allegedly sexually abused more than 1,000 parishioners and now the church’s attempts to cover-up the abuse may have gone all the way to the Vatican.
Speaking to CBS, Josh Shapiro said, “Priests would go, bishops would go and lie to parishioners, lie to law enforcement, lie to the public but then document all of the abuse in secret archives that they would share oftentimes with the Vatican.”
Shapiro spoke with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about the churches “secret archives” that outline the details of many of the abuse claims. The “secret archives” also reveal that the Vatican allegedly had some knowledge of the crimes.
When asked if the Pope knew, Shapiro said that, “the Vatican knew.”
The latest Catholic abuse scandal revealed over 300 priests and that was just in one state. Some are calling for resignations and that includes the Pope’s.
The former Vatican ambassador to the United States announced on Sunday that Pope Francis knew about abuse in the church and did nothing to stop it.
Here why the former Vatican ambassador is calling for the Pope’s resignation.
Missouri is another state that has launched an investigation into the Catholic Church’s abuse. If similar wrongdoings are found, then the Pope might be forced to consider resigning.
