The Chinese Communist Party has made it official: they want Joe Biden to be the next President of the United States.
CNN tweeted a video about different foreign countries “influencing the 2020 election” and mentioned that “the Chinese want to make sure President Trump is not reelected.”
Chen Weihua, a top official for the Chinese state-run media, responded simply: “Europe wants Biden too.”
Chen’s words echo what the Chinese government has hinted but not explicitly said: they want Biden to win the White House. Over the past few months, a large number of op-eds and articles praising Biden have appeared in China’s state-run media.
That echoes a statement from the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, which had previously reported that China wants to see Biden elected.
“We assess that China prefers that President Trump–whom Beijing sees as unpredictable–does not win reelection,” the center wrote.
Those findings were, in fact, confirmed by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who referenced the report and shrugged it off, saying, “Whether they do, that’s their conclusion.”
Biden, famously, refused to call China a “competitor” to the US while speaking at a recent CNN town hall. In addition, Biden has repeatedly downplayed Chinese threat to the United States–laughing about the notion that the Chinese would “eat our lunch.”
His son, Hunter, has also been criticized for financial dealings with the Chinese Communist Party, allegedly from peddling the former Vice President’s influence.
