A Dartmouth professor was given $137,530 to create a recession-themed video game. The game, “Layoff”, was intended to draw attention to the pressing social consequences of the recession and evoke empathy from players. There’s a reason you won’t find it next to Call of Duty, but the professor got paid anyway, with money that could have gone to government programs that create real jobs.
