San Antonio Spur’s Coach, and living legend, Gregg Popovich ripped into President Trump. Popovich, who has won an incredible five NBA championships, made his comments during a Monday press conference.
When asked by The Nation’s Dave Zirin what he thought of the current President, Coach Popovich instantly went ballistic. He told Zirin, “I’ve been amazed and disappointed by so much of what this president had said. And his approach to running this country, which seems to be one of just a never-ending divisiveness.”
He continued, under the banner of combatting political divisiveness, to spew fiery partisan hatred, “This man in the Oval Office is a soulless coward who thinks that he can only become large by belittling others,” he raged.
Having clearly been fired up about the question, and with a lot on his mind – Coach Popovich continued in detail, “This has of course been a common practice of his, but to do it in this manner—and to lie about how previous presidents responded to the deaths of soldiers—is as low as it gets. We have a pathological liar in the White House: unfit intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically to hold this office and the whole world knows it, especially those around him every day.”
“The people who work with this President should be ashamed because they know it better than anyone just how unfit he is, and yet they choose to do nothing about it,” he concluded by saying. “This is their shame most of all.”
With top NBA figures like Popovich breaking the barrier to overtly partisan statements, many other coaches, and even owners, are sure to follow. It is only a matter of time before the Black Lives Matter, Anthem Protests start to spread to this sport as well – and all are kneeling, and ignoring the anthem.
How long will the American people put up with these out-of-touch sports entertainers?
