A lesbian college student at Ohio University has been arrested–after sending herself death threats and anti-gay notes.
Senior Anna Ayers, who had served as the commissioner of the Ohio University Student Senate’s Appropriations Committee, had claimed to find three threatening notes addressed to her.
Two of the notes were found in her desk at the Student Senate, suggesting they came from one of her colleagues.
Ayers reported the crime to police and the Student Senate also went into overdrive to find the person who sent Ayers the threatening notes, holding an emergency meeting last Wednesday.
A police investigation, however, quickly found that Ayers had sent the messages to herself.
“We are still processing and encouraging our members to take time to heal and utilize campus support resources right now,” said Student Senate President Maddie Sloat, in a statement. “We’re complying with the investigation and OUPD. We hope Anna receives the help that she needs.”
Ayers has been charged with three counts of making false alarms, which are misdemeanors. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
