Apparently, Barack Obama is no fan of self-proclaimed socialist, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez, who won a Democratic congressional primary in New York State in a major upset against one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington, was snubbed by the former President–after she was left off a long list of Obama’s endorsed candidates for the 2018 election.
“Today I’m proud to endorse such a wide and impressive array of Democratic candidates – leaders as diverse, patriotic, and big-hearted as the America they’re running to represent,” wrote Obama, via Twitter.
Obama included 81 candidates from races of all sizes–everything from governors races to state legislature offices.
“I’m confident that, together, they’ll strengthen this country we love by restoring opportunity, repairing our alliances and standing in the world, and upholding our fundamental commitment to justice, fairness, responsibility, and the rule of law,” Obama added. “But first, they need our votes.”
President Barack Obama received criticisms for being too liberal… but even his harshest critics would admit that the Democratic Party has veered dramatically to the left after he left office.
While Obama may endorse Ocasio-Cortez at a later date, it’s hard to seem him leaving her name off his first round of endorsements as anything but a major snub for the rising star.
Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign has not yet commented on Obama’s lack of endorsement.
