A transgender rapist decided to identify as a woman, was moved to a women’s prison… and proceeded to sexual assault four female inmates.
Karen White, 52, is a convicted sex offender and pedophile in the UK, who committed a laundry list of sex crimes—all committed as a man, named Stephen Wood. In September 2017, White has pleaded guilty to three counts of rape: from August 2003, February 2016, and December 2016. White had previously been jailed in 2001 after commiting “gross indecency with a child.”
White identified as transgender, and was sent to a women’s prison–even though authorities knew the convicted rapist had undergone no physical or hormonal changes that would give White more female characteristics. White also had not legally changed genders.
Upon arriving in prison, White did the expected: began sexually assaulting fellow inmates.
Prosecutor Charlotte Dangerfield explained the attacks in court, saying, “The defendant would stand very close to [another prisoner], touch her arm and wink at her. Her penis was erect and sticking out of the top of her trousers.”
In another incident, Dangerfield said that White wrapped the victim in “a bear hug and the defendant pushed her hips towards her with such force that the complainant could feel his penis.”
White also made inappropriate comments about oral sex to other inmates.
White has since been transferred to an all-male prison, and the British Prison Service has since apologized for allowing White to be brought into a women’s prison in the first place.
