Apparently, the liberal media thinks the Cherokee Nation is racist for calling out a white woman who is pretending to be a Native American.

Despite backlash over Elizabeth Warren’s widely-discredited DNA test–which “proved” she was between 1/64 and 1/1024 Native American, a heritage shared by most white Americans–the mainstream media is doubling down on their Warren defense.

MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin asked MSNBC Political Analyst and SiriusXM’s Director of Progressive Programming Zerlina Maxwell to weigh in on an eviscerating statement made by the Cherokee Nation to protest Warren’s actions.

Saying that Warren had “long claimed that she’s part Cherokee,” Melvin asked Maxwell: “Cherokee Nation, Secretary of State Cherokee Nation, said in a statement, ‘DNA testing cannot prove that Warren is Cherokee or any other tribe.’… Do we think that the decision itself was a mistake? Do we think that the timing was a mistake?”

Maxwell claimed that Warren had “put to bed a lot of the controversy,” apparently taking the mainstream media stance that Warren had “proved” her ancestry.

But then Maxwell went after the Cherokees for being racist… against someone falsely claiming their heritage, apparently.

“So to be clear, I think that while the rollout of the DNA test and the decision to do a DNA test to be able to, quote, ‘prove’ that she is part Cherokee, may not have been the best method,” Maxwell admitted. But “I also think that the Cherokee Nation’s response was problematic because it actually ignores the fact that DNA testing historically has been used to exclude black natives from tribal affiliation. And so, that history has been completely lost in this entire conversation, and that’s potentially very unfortunate.”
