Despite being dramatically outraised by Democrat challenger Beto O’Rourke, Ted Cruz won the hard fought battle in Texas. Cruz won by a little more than 200,000 votes, 50.9% for Cruz and 48.3% or O’Rourke.
O’Rourke gave a very impassioned concession speech and even dropped the f-bomb when thanking his team.
Some think that O’Rourke has what it takes to run for president in 2020, but Beto says he will not run.
Ted Cruz won, in a state that he should have won. Texas has been a red state for a very long time. Aside for electing Jimmy Carter 1976 and a female governor in 1990, the state has voted almost exclusively for Republican candidates.

The close battle between Cruz and O’Rourke show that Democrats are making a lot of ground in Texas and it could happen as soon as the next election. With Trump and the Republicans facing a border crisis with the caravan of immigrants, Texas could continue to be a strong red state or it could fall blue for the first time since Jimmy Carter.
Republicans can’t afford to lose Texas. Without Texas, the Republicans will lose almost any chance they have a winning the White House. Not just in 2020, but for a very long time.
