A transgender trailblazer–the first “transgender students’ officer” in Britain’s National Union of Students (NUS)–has been suspended, after apparently flashing genitalia on trains, in public parks, and at a bus stop.
Jess Bradley, who was born male but identifies as a “nonbinary transwoman,” could permanently lose a full-time paid job at the NUS, depending on the results of an internal investigation.
The controversy came after Bradley posted photos of naked male genitalia–being flashed on a train, in a park, and at a bus stop–on a personal blog entry called “Exhibitionizm.”
Though Bradley’s face isn’t visible in the photos, the genitalia is believed to belong to the suspended officer.
Bradley later uploaded another photograph of male genitalia in what appears to be the NUS office.
After initially refusing to comment, Bradley finally released a statement, claiming innocence.
“I have currently been suspended from my role at NUS pending an investigation,” wrote Bradley. “Due to my contractual obligations to keep the nature and details of the investigation confidential, there are a number of things I would like to say but am currently not able to talk about without risking my job. I appreciate at this time there is a lot of speculation about my conduct and I am able to tell you that I am confident that none of my behaviour has been unlawful, and that I have not engaged in sexual activity with anyone, or in the view of anyone, without their consent. I intend to engage cooperatively with NUS’ investigation, and hope I should be in a position to talk about the situation in full to the communities that I am accountable to. This statement is all I am going to say on this matter until the NUS investigation is completed.”
