Trump had too much of a good thing on Monday—after nearly 100,000 people requested entry to his rally at Houston’s Toyota Center arena.
The arena, which seats just 19,000, forced Trump and his team to get creative: to handle the tens of thousands of people in the overflow crowd, they arranged a tailgate outside the arena and broadcasted Trump’s speech on big monitors.
“With requests for tickets exceeding over 100,000 online, the Trump Campaign has organized a tailgater to take place in the afternoon leading up to the rally starting at 6:30 p.m. CT,” Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign announced in a statement. “The tailgater will feature food trucks, live music courtesy of the Marcus Eldridge Band and the Will Carter Band, appearances by Trump Campaign spokespeople, big screens to see President Trump’s speech, and more.”
But for some of Trump’s most ardent supporters, being outside the main action just wasn’t good enough. Thousands of supporters waited as long as 32 hours to make sure they had access to the arena.
