On Sunday, President Donald Trump claimed that a lot of lawyers and law firms were and still are willing to represent him in the Russian collusion case. His claims were put forward to the general public in a set of tweets he made. He said, “Many lawyers and top law firms want to represent me in the Russia case…don’t believe the Fake News narrative that it is hard to find a lawyer who wants to take this on.”
“Fame & fortune will NEVER be turned down by a lawyer, though some are conflicted,” said the President, before expressing what the reason is behind not making new additions to his legal team.
“Problem is that a new lawyer or law firm will take months to get up to speed (if for no other reason than they can bill more), which is unfair to our great country.”
“I am very happy with my existing team,” Trump praised. After which he solemnly yet confidently, denied the allegations of connivance with Russia, as per the case, in the 2016 presidential elections. This federal investigation into Trump’s election campaign, which has now spilled over to a probe in his personal finances, was started by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Trump claimed, “Besides, there was NO COLLUSION with Russia, except by Crooked Hillary and the Dems!”
The tweets by President Donald Trump were perhaps a reaction to all the speculation regarding the slight turbulence that took place last week in President Trump’s legal defense team. The cause of this slight disturbance was the sudden and unanticipated resignation of Attorney John Dowd who was previously leading Donald Trump’s legal team.
The resignation came in on Thursday, after which speculations began that the reason behind Dowd’s exit was his differences in opinion with the President, regarding the strategy the legal team should follow, and the constant disregard of Dowd’s advice.
“I love the President and wish him well,” Dowd stated, after his resignation.
The other reason behind the minor turbulence was the on-going adjustments of the husband-and-wife legal duo in Trump’s legal team. Sometime before Dowd’s resignation, it was announced that Joseph diGenova will be joining Trump’s legal counsel. This new addition was supposed to bring a more dynamic approach to the Special Counsel’s current legal strategy.
However, on Sunday, one of Trump’s lawyers Jay Sekulow, released a statement saying that diGenova would no longer be joining Trump’s legal team. “The President is disappointed that conflicts prevent Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing from joining his Special Counsel legal team,” Sekulow was quoted saying while adding “However, those conflicts do not prevent them from assisting the President in other legal matters.”
A joint statement was released by diGenova and Toensing, to The Associated Press on Sunday saying, “We thank the President for his confidence in us, and we look forward to working with him on other matters.” However, they declined to answer any further questions regarding the matter, to the press.
