Mainstream media pundits can’t go more than five seconds without declaring Trump a “racist”… but African-Americans aren’t buying it.
According to a new poll by Rasmussen Reporters, Trump’s approval among black voters is a whopping 31%.
That’s up 13 points from this time last year, when Rasmussen had Trump at 18% approval among African-Americans.
Trump’s soaring support among black voters comes as the unemployment rate among blacks reaches historic lows, as well as rising support from a number of prominent black leaders–including rapper Kanye West, pundit Candace Owens, and an increasing number of African-American preachers.
But it’s also fueled by rising crime in a number of predominately-blakc, Democrat-run cities–generally considered a function of the Black Lives Matter movement that has made police officers afraid to effectively police communities.
Approval doesn’t directly correspond to votes–but, if Trump were able to hold onto a majority of the black voters who currently approve of the job he’s doing, it could have a seismic impact on the 2020 election.
The Republican who received the highest proportion of black votes in a presidential election was Bob Dole in 1996, who was the pick of 18% of black voters. If Trump was able to receive upwards of 20% of the black vote, it could make his re-election all but certain.
