Stormy Daniels’s lawyers have filed a lawsuit this week, claiming that Trump’s laywer, Michael Cohen had “surreptitiously initiated a bogus arbitration proceeding” against Daniels, without offering adequate notice or proceeding according to the “basic due process.”
Rumors of Trump’s alleged affair date back to when he was a business tycoon. Its rumored that Trump’s lawyer paid Stormy Daniels a six-figure sum to keep the scandal from the public – but no definitive proof has come to light. The Wall Street Journal reported that the President’s lawyer paid $130,000 to the porn actor in 2006, a decade before Trump served the White House and was still a private citizen, managing his private business empire.
According to Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Press Secretary for the White House, “The President has addressed these [rumors] directly and made very well clear that none of these allegations are true,” adding that, “It has already been won in arbitration.”
In a court filing this week, Stormy Daniels Lawyer said that “Mr. Trump purposely did not sign the agreement so he could later, if need be, publicly disavow knowledge.”
According to Cohen, President Donald Trump was not aware of the payment made to Stormy Daniels, neither did the president reimburse that amount to him in any way. Cohen said in a statement last month that, “In a private transaction in 2016, I used my own personal funds to facilitate a payment of 130k to Stephanie Clifford.” He further added that “Neither the Trump organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly.”
Daniels lawyer, however, said in a filing this week that, “The extent of Mr. Trump’s involvement in these efforts is presently unknown, but it strains credulity to conclude that Mr. Cohen is acting on his own accord without the express approval and knowledge of his client Mr. Trump.” Further adding that “Earlier today, Mr. Cohen through his attorney, Mr. Rosen, further threatened my client in an effort to prevent her from telling the truth about what really happened,” Avenatti said Wednesday.
